bored in the new house.
My stepmom's dog died last night.
Some people think i should get a job this summer. I dunno.
I'm taking calculus at a local community college that is lined up perfectly with one of the runways at the airport. When I went to register i got to see a KLM 747 fly low right over my head. It was so sweet. I love planes.
Day after tommorrow is my birthday. I will be 19.
My dad showed me how to add movies to the queue on his blockbuster account. We will be receiving some excellent films this summer, and i am quite enthused.
I ordered 2 new pocketknives; a spyderco and a benchmade. huzzah.
Our little trip to South Padre was nice. The island was pretty much deserted until friday. We got there monday. My new favorite beverage is finlandia with diet kiwi-strawberry soda.
I'm only doing this because for some reason it seems necessary.
i want to learn more about quantum physics. I should read QED; i've had it for 2 or 3 years now.
I'm currently reading 'Point Counter Point,' which is supposed to be Aldous Huxley's finest novel. I think it probably is, though i have only Brave New World and The Doors of Perception for comparison. I have so many fucking books on my shelves that haven't been read. And i keep getting new ones.
I'm haunted nowadays by a sickening idleness. I feel so bored, like i should be doing something. But WHAT?! theres nothing to do but spend money I don't have on shit i don't need.
So i've been reading a lot. It has been raining all week and tonight there was an eery fog over the lake and the forest on the other side. I hope to god they never build houses over there.
And our new modem came in, but the new wireless router disagrees with my laptop, so i've been using my dad's computer.

I finally ate at Taco Milagro the other day, and it was good. I've always thought the name (means "miracle taco") was funny. But i think it's location in River Oaks has a lot to do with its consistent success.

My last day of school was cinco de mayo and i didn't have my first final until today, so i have spent the last week at home, relaxing. I read East of Eden, and it is excellent, probably my favorite Steinbeck.
The new house is very nice and my grumblings over the design (or lack thereof) have been forgotten. It sits on a man-made lake/pond? and my yellow labrador loves the water. And the area north of Houston is essentially a dense pine forest with a high canopy which is very nice to live in.
We got a new TV for the house, and i watched my favorite part of Alien on it.
But there is no internet yet, so in a way i feel as if i've been in the jungle all week. I had to go to an ice cream parlor with free wireless internet to check my email.
Roy and I are going to South Padre island a week from this monday for 5 nights. I'm very excited. We wanted to go to New Orleans, but my father convinced me otherwise and we settled for somewhere relatively close with a decent beach.
I went to the Woodlands Mall today and was subsequently made bitter at the lack of community planning/zoning restrictions, etc. throughout much of the Houston suburbs. The Woodlands is (are?) beautiful.

I saw a great (and tiny) show of Roy Lichtenstein and Tom Wesselman at the MFAH on saturday. The colors really make me want to do something crazy. Like take up silkscreening. As usual, the easter bunny brought me some cadbury creme eggs and some new boxers, but apparently he took his time in our house; my little sister woke up screaming for her mother and I had to escort her down the stairs.
And so i spent my last nights in the house on good ole Foster Springs. The new house i will move into when school is done, and then only till august. thank GOD.
No, really....
I've bitched a lot about the new house, but its a fine house, only slightly more mediocre than the previous one.
The Blanton Museum of Art is opening this week, and i think i will be attending an opening gala for students on thursday night (thats april 20th). Should be fun. Its the largest University Art Gallery in the country, which is no surprise when you consider that we are, like, the best.

I have spent a [relatively] obscene amount of money renting DVDs lately. But the result is that now i have a distinct and insatiable appetite for film. a list of recent rentals:
The seventh seal, winter light, cries and whispers (why, god?), the virgin spring, wild strawberries, 8 1/2, that obscure object of desire, solaris (the original 1972 Russian version), kill!, survive style 5+, le corbeau, and perhaps some others i can't think of right now.

I got up on time this morning to go to studio only to realize when i arrived that my prof. would be tied up in a review all morning and that i really didn't have to be there. I haven't gone back to sleep yet because of the requisite cup of coffee i had, and because it sounds like someone is trying to get through the wall with a combination of hammer and drill.
I read yesterday that Santiago Calatrava is doing three Bridges over the trinity river near downtown Dallas.
I went to an immigration rally on monday and as usual when i find myself faced with a large crowd of singular ethnicity, i could only think of bad stereotypical jokes, which i kept to myself whilst lusting for a burrito.
I had a mid-project review on monday, and it went well; the only evidence i had to show for my design was a set of sketches. But thats okay.
On friday night, after in interesting dinner at Kenichi with my parents, i went to this totally radical party at this gorgeous old house on Travis Heights. it was an 80s party but i say to hell with all that shit.
the next day I got to be uncle Brennan for a few hours at my niece's birthday party. She's nine.

I saw this play last wednesday and it is the funniest thing i have seen in a long time.


I now have a subscription to "marlin, the international sportfishing magazine" as well as "Best Life" which is sort of like a less chic, more conservative, and middle-aged GQ. Thats in addition to golf digest, bicycling, maxim (the only one i can stand), and some others i can't remember. I did not ask for these; they have just been appearing in my mailbox, addressed to me.
