My mom and I are going up to Dallas today to visit some of the Jehovies, which is to say some of her family. Should be a nice diversion; I usually enjoy myself up there.

I hate goodbyes

We had to put down our yellow lab Tinkerbelle today. Even though we sort of saw it coming it was still sad

pic i took flying over our beach in Costa Rica

Oh, the ragman draws circles
Up and down the block.
I'd ask him what the matter was
But I know that he don't talk.
And the ladies treat me kindly
And furnish me with tape,
But deep inside my heart
I know I can't escape.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Well, Shakespeare, he's in the alley
With his pointed shoes and his bells,
Speaking to some French girl,
Who says she knows me well.
And I would send a message
To find out if she's talked,
But the post office has been stolen
And the mailbox is locked.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Mona tried to tell me
To stay away from the train line.
She said that all the railroad men
Just drink up your blood like wine.
An' I said, "Oh, I didn't know that,
But then again, there's only one I've met
An' he just smoked my eyelids
An' punched my cigarette."
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Grandpa died last week
And now he's buried in the rocks,
But everybody still talks about
How badly they were shocked.
But me, I expected it to happen,
I knew he'd lost control
When he built a fire on Main Street
And shot it full of holes.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Now the senator came down here
Showing ev'ryone his gun,
Handing out free tickets
To the wedding of his son.
An' me, I nearly got busted
An' wouldn't it be my luck
To get caught without a ticket
And be discovered beneath a truck.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Now the preacher looked so baffled
When I asked him why he dressed
With twenty pounds of headlines
Stapled to his chest.
But he cursed me when I proved it to him,
Then I whispered, "Not even you can hide.
You see, you're just like me,
I hope you're satisfied."
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Now the rainman gave me two cures,
Then he said, "Jump right in."
The one was Texas medicine,
The other was just railroad gin.
An' like a fool I mixed them
An' it strangled up my mind,
An' now people just get uglier
An' I have no sense of time.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

When Ruthie says come see her
In her honky-tonk lagoon,
Where I can watch her waltz for free
'Neath her Panamanian moon.
An' I say, "Aw come on now,
You must know about my debutante."
An' she says, "Your debutante just knows what you need
But I know what you want."
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Now the bricks lay on Grand Street
Where the neon madmen climb.
They all fall there so perfectly,
It all seems so well timed.
An' here I sit so patiently
Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay to get out of
Going through all these things twice.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

There's a fantastic[ally fresh] asian art show at the MFAH. My pic

I decided to try out the new video upload feature, so this is a video I made in the giant steel sculpture at the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth:

Last night I had a dream that I had braces again, and that one of my lower canines was loose, and I pulled it out. I was all freaked out because I lost a tooth, and anyway it was kind of scary. I've lost teeth in several dreams now. I should really keep a log.
I'm reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Its very good; I really like this author's work.

Well Costa Rica was fantabulous. Our hotel was up on a hill overlooking the little cove formed by steep hills on either end of the beach. So, the view from most points at the hotel was breathtakingly beautiful. I was a bit apprehensive beforehand because the weather forecast said it would be cloudy and rainy every day, but it was actually sunny and only partly cloudy for most of every day, with a little rain in the afternoon, which is normal during the rainy season there. I got a little sunburnt.
We stayed in Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste, which is on the N. Pacific coast. I've always wanted to go to Costa Rica, and ever since I visited Mazatlán a few years ago, I've wanted to go back to the Pacific.
This summer I've been further north, east (Amsterdam), south (Costa Rica), and west (Las Vegas) than I've ever been before.

Standing there alone
the ship is waiting
all systems are go
are you sure?
control is not convinced
but the computer
has the evidence
"no need to abort"
the countdown starts

watching in a trance
the crew is certain
nothing left to chance
all is working
trying to relax
up in the capsule
"send me up a drink"
jokes Major Tom
the count goes on

4 3 2 1
Earth below us
drifting falling
floating weightless
calling calling home...

second stage is cut
we're now in orbit
stabilizers up
runnning perfect
starting to collect
requested data
what will it effect
when all is done
thinks Major Tom

back at ground control
there is a problem
go to rockets full
not responding
"hello Major Tom
are you receiving
turn the thrusters on
we're standing by"
there's no reply

4 3 2 1
Earth below us
drifting falling
floating weightless
calling calling home...

across the stratosphere
a final message
"give my wife my love"
then nothing more

far beneath the ship
the world is mourning
they don't realize
he's alive
no one understands
but Major Tom sees
now the life commands
this is my home
I'm coming home

Earth below us
drifting falling
floating weightless
coming home...
Earth below us
drifting falling
floating weightless
coming home...
Earth below us
drifting falling
floating weightless
coming coming home...
home.....

Well I'm pretty much all moved in to my new house, which also happens to be my dad's house.
Today a Harris County police officer came to our front door to tell us that my car was parked incorrectly in the street. Cars can be no more than 6" from the curb and have to be in line with the direction of traffic on your side of the street. I so wanted to ask him if he didn't have anything better to do and to inform him that there was probably an old lady getting robbed and murdered somewhere, but here he was, in the upper-middle-class Houston suburbs telling people how to park. It was a warning, next time it will be a $160 ticket.

I have moved back to Houston, and am transferring to UH. After deciding to switch to finance at UT, i realized that without a great GPA, my chances of transferring into the almighty McCombs School of Business were slim. So, true to form, I have taken the easy way out.
I'm flying to Costa Rica this Saturday, so everything is peachy.

Some funny signs:

Get away from her, you bitch!

I went over to the Mueller development today, mostly to see the new Dell Children's Medical Center. There's also a great pond with a huge amphitheater made out of giant blocks of sandstone on one side.

the hospital:
