I should really stop posting these things at 3 AM when i'm tired and frazzled. The result is not pretty.
Nice weekend now over. Saw the new Prairie View A&M Architecture building on friday; it's neat, except for the baby-shit yellow terrazzo staircase running through the middle. And the studios all seem to be wide open, i guess the desks are locked up?
Anyway, it's seriously the only cool thing that Prairie View, TX has seen in um, forever.
My brother Andrew's poor dog let gravity get the best of him and fell out of the back of Andrew's truck while he was making a turn. Poor widdle puppy. He really is a cool dog: pit bull, solid muscle, black and white coat, and really sweet (but not to dogs that try to fuck w/ him, he will shut your ass down, dog).
I think it's really funny how american conservatives got excited when Stephen Harper was elected prime minister of Canada. he's a conservative (the word naturally has a slightly different definition in Canada) and is the first non-liberal PM is years.
What's even funnier is that a few eskimos and their pet beaver are allowed to be called a country. kidding, really; Canada is great, and if not for the high taxes and brutally cold weather, i would love to live there.
I recently discovered nip/tuck; well, i heard about it it a long time ago, but i just recently watched it. It is awesome.
I watched the wizard of oz while playing dark side of the moon last week. it's kind of cool.
So we scrapped the whole mexican spring break road trip bonanza and have decided instead to go to lovely Beeville, TX where roy's family has a house with all the necessary amenities. We will be bringing guns, lots of guns. and wild turkey.
It's a god-awful small affair
To the girl with the mousy hair
But her mummy is yelling "No"
And her daddy has told her to go
But her friend is nowhere to be seen
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seat with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen
But the film is a saddening bore
For she's lived it ten times or more
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man! Look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?
It's on Amerikas tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow
Now the workers have struck for fame
'Cause Lennon's on sale again
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibeza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
But the film is a saddening bore
'Cause I wrote it ten times or more
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man! Look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy

What the hell is going on?
Getting an apartment is exciting. August seems so far away...
This port control issue is silly.
I caught part of 'grizzly man' on the discovery channel today, and i'm still scratching my head.
Roy saw Gwyneth Paltrow (sp?) at the Menil today. we should all be so lucky.
whoa, pierce brosnan just made a train crash into a tank
diumenge, de febrer 19, 2006

instead of dallas i went to whole foods
that store rocks
dinner at Roy's, some Hawaiian chain restaurant on 2nd
Oversleeping is not cool
I had a dream that i helped a goat give birth to a little goat.

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one
My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new bluejeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans
Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk
------ organ solo ------
Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun
Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain
Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

I'm leaving for Dallas in 5.5 hrs, and its supposed to freezing there. That rachovsky house better make me shit a gold brick or something.
I had to walk 6 blocks through cold rain tonight after a freak cold front blew in.
Today was good, though; i did great on my survey test, and i am actually looking forward to sleeping on the bus tommorrow. today. whatever.

dilluns, de febrer 13, 2006
and now the weekend has come to a close.
I don't know what to say.
My dad informs me that we are going to Grand Cayman this summer, ostensibly for the diving, and he wants both of us to get advance diver certification before the trip. That ought to be fun. We have never gone anywhere "exotic" for vacation as a family, so this is going to be pretty cool. i hope.
My poor little nephew is having surgery this weekend, so my family is coming up to spicewood (near Austin) to take some of the load off the ole caretakers. Free restaurant meal, here i come.
Armando and i are getting an apartment next year; i'm soooo happy that i won't be living in a dorm again. We will meet with an agent this weekend.
Dick Cheney Shot someone.
I need to get a haircut.
I want to meet Noam Chomsky.
Roy and I are toying with the idea of driving to Ixtapa (on the southern coast of Mexico) for spring break, but by and by I think we (well, I) won't be able to afford it. I miss the pacific like a masochist misses a good spanking.
This semester is apparently the semester of peculiar old men: i have them for physics, psychology and design, my prof. for survey is a bit peculiar, but not old. He's great, though.
We are going to Dallas/Fort Worth this friday to see some good architecture. On the agenda: the Nasher, The Kimbell, MAMFW, and a house by Richard Meier. It should be pretty cool, even though (seen from space at night) DFW looks like a giant cock and balls. Yes, it does, just check out the highway that rings dallas, then goes over and around fort worth.
Anyhoo, things are going well and i can't complain.

My my, hey hey
Rock and roll is here to stay
It's better to burn out
Than to fade away
My my, hey hey.
Out of the blue
and into the black
They give you this,
but you pay for that
And once you're gone,
you can never come back
When you're out of the blue
and into the black.
The king is gone
but he's not forgotten
This is the story
of a Johnny Rotten
It's better to burn out
than it is to rust
The king is gone
but he's not forgotten.
Hey hey, my my
Rock and roll can never die
There's more to the picture
Than meets the eye.
Hey hey, my my.

have some fun:
(no, really, it's loads of fun)

Our Design project is to fix a park that isn't broken. i don't know what the fuck...
I have so much viscomm work to do tonight. its not even funny, so don't laugh. I am prepared, though: i bought a four pack of [sugar-free] red bull.
As expected, the super bowl was totally passé. We've had enough football excitement around here to last for a while. I couldn't care less.
'The Corporation' is an excellent film.

Design today was a lovely presentation of every case-study house across all 4 studios. My group went last after ~70% of the others had left. It was fun, though. This weekend might be a little crazy.

coooooool:

my collage
nagel house is minimalist sculpture juxtaposed on the landscape. there is also a view of the tower

Nagel House (see: fucking walter gropius, below)

the following is the natural result of being dragged into a flurry of emails exchanged between various parts of my mother's family trying to decide on when to take a cruise (i sent these to the whole fam.):

Barcelona, Parc Guell, Antoni Gaudi
La Pedrera, Antoni Gaudi
just because
MAMFW

This week has been okay, we have literally been living and breathing our houses, and i'm confident that I (like Pierre Minard rewriting Don Quijote) could build the house from scratch exactly the way chester nagel did. Next i think we will go out and actually eat the house. perhaps then we will come to some sort of conclusion. All the studios met today in the attic to get the next assignment (my studio got it yesterday); i do not miss that room one bit.
I feel really good about this semester and things are looking up. I have to go home to pack up all of my shit. well, probably not all.

dilluns, de gener 09, 2006
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
what i've read over the break:
Haunted, Chuck Palahniuk
The Informers, Bret Easton Ellis (i've now read everything by him)
House of Leaves, Mark Z. Danielewski
five stories from 'Labyrinths', Jorge Luis Borges, who is a fucking genius, and who obviously influenced House of Leaves
Books on the ole to do list (they wait patiently on my shelf):
The Right Stuff, Tom Wolfe
Mao II, Don Delillo
East of Eden, John Steinbeck (fuck you, oprah)
The Plague, Albert Camus
The Divine Comedy, Dante
The Power and the Glory, Graham Greene
Under Fire, Henri Barbusse
Lullaby, Chuck Palahniuk
Anthem, Ayn Rand
The Bonfire of the Vanities, Tom Wolfe
For Whom the Bell Tolls, Ernest Hemingway
Spanking the Donkey, Matt Taibbi
The Elegant Universe, Brian Greene
I am bored.
.
Before i go back to Austin later this week, i must stop by the Menil to see the Calder show and the MFA to see the Basquiat show again, it's that good, or he's that good.
Went by the old high school to see a couple of teachers and chat a bit. It's weird going back there.

I love being an uncle
My trip to Sherman was nice, got to really experience the work of christ first hand...
seriously, it was a nice small town refuge before its back to school. and i convinced my Brother-in-law to read 'Heart of Darkness' which is a great book.
I watched a fantastic football game on wednesday; i really am not a fan of sports but christmas will be renamed to vince young-mas and it wil be moved to vince young's birthday.
My bother-in-law and I destroyed some beer bottles w/ his .40 S&W and a Walther .22
I didn't bring my .32
that was fun, even if my ears were ringing for hours afterward.
I made two sidetrips, one on my way to sherman (nasher) and one on my way out (kimbell/MAMFW).
that was cool. The nasher is quite impressive, though it would be nice to see them put the offices off-site and maximize the interior gallery space. I even saw Mr. Nasher in the conference room. I should've cursed him for being cheap and making people pay to look at the art.
the kimbell is spectacular, though i didn't feel like shelling out $10 to see the gauguin show. louis kahn was good at what he did.
MAMFW is cool as ever, though i was in a hurry and only rushed in to take some photos. and of course play in the big sculpture outside.
I found a 'Series 7: the contenders' DVD at hasting's in sherman. I was so happy, and of all places, i find it in little quasi-oklahoma hickville.
Tonight roy and i threw waterproof firecrackers into the bayou and watched as they quietly detonated below the surface, disturbing a rat/possum(?) that was [____]ing under the bridge.
I realized somthing on my drive into Dallas: i have come to associate DFW w/ bleak landscapes of dry, dead grass fields and bare trees because in the last 14 years since i moved away, i usually have only gone back during the fall/winter to visit family. So maybe i wouldn't get that cold feeling of emptiness if i went in the summer...
nah, dallas blows.
My roommate called the house today while i was on the road and invited me to meet up w/ him (and apparently other houston-based archies that he knows) for a 12-hour tour of the city tommorrow. I dunno, it starts at 8, which is far too early, and i wouldn't really be seeing anything new, but i appreciate the invite nonetheless.
House of leaves, by Mark Danielewski, is one hell of a book. it's a -dare i say it- tour de force.

When the papa found out, he began to shout, and he started the investigation
