"May the god of your choice bless you" or "You're goin' down, Delay!"

I met Kinky Friedman the other day. That was neat. He signed my campaign poster. He had to relight his cigar about 30 times in 10 minutes. He said that we had to get rid of the "fucking TAKS", which my former english teacher agrees with.
Jubilation! Tom Delay has been indicted for what amounts to political money-laundering. Hubris, anyone?
I have my first review tommorrow. I will get to present my cute widdle pwoject to 2 or 3 architects. yay. I uh, love scrutiny.
I went down to the capitol building today, and i got to see the rotunda, the house/senate chambers, etc. I was disappointed by one thing: throughout the entire building (the outside of which is a lovely aged pink granite) there are terrazzo floors. Highly detailed, mind you, but terrazzo nonetheless. i was slightly appalled. But it was nice to see the building; it is very similar to the US capitol in DC, but much better looking in my opinion. Its taller for one thing, and the dome (the most similar part) is slimmer than the one in DC. Also, ours is a nice brown color, not that white crap that just shrieks hypocrisy. ANYWAY...
Heres to a Delay conviction in Travis county (where i now call home)! Woohoo!
Heres a video that expresses one of my reasons for detesting Airbus.
Color me once,
Color me twice,
Everything gonna turn out nice.
Everlasting love, you gotta keep me from these false alarms
Alarm, alarm I seem so sad.
Ring, ring I see her I'm glad.
Maybe, maybe the fire of her desire
Patience, patience said ;the man,
Patience, patience, I can't understand.
Patience like a man and a wife.
I got patience on my neck like a coco that.
I say, Jack be nimble, Jack fall dead,
Jack bend over and give Jilly head.
Oh, you gotta help my body heal my soul.

Dead men working, a sinner, a saint.
Mixing up a pail of paint.
Painted the house, black as night,
When the sun came up the house was white.
Gotta go on,
gotta go on,
we gotta go on,
you gotta go on,
we gotta go on

Hmmmmm.... Well, uh... School is good; i have managed to inadvertently alienate many people in my studio and that makes me sad. I'm taking advantage of some free tutoring so I don't fail calculus, and my design project is actually a source of pleasure and pride. It's a minimalist's dream, and I was able to use a material that i doubt any one else thought to use. I think this is the first time I have felt this good about a project. Caught part of "Falling Down" on TV today; it was the part when hes on the golf course and causes the old guy to have a heart attack and then laughs at his plight. Michael Douglas can be a badass when hes not playing someone rich and powerful like every other movie hes been in.
I did not go to ACL and this does not disappoint me at all. Sunday was the hottest day Austin has had all year, and none of the bands were worth that shit. Standing in the sun during the day here feels like standing in an oven. Luckily there are many shade trees around.
Rita was a let down; anti-climax really. Here i got all worried about my family/friends/house and Rita goes north. I am glad, but disappointed in a way that bothers me. I made a new group on the facebook: "I REALLY liked American Psycho and that kinda scares me". The book, not the movie, which was mediocre at best. Although Christian Bale was a good choice for Patrick Bateman. So far, 2 people have joined; not quite as successful as my other group: "Bill O'Reilly is the devil" and he is, dammit. Heres a clip that I think validates my hatred.
Also, an email i received which i thought was funny:
Revised Hurricane Evacuation Plan For Houston:

In light of the recent traffic jams and gasoline shortages
resulting from the widespread evacuations prior to Hurricane
Rita, city officials have announced a new official Hurricane
Evacuation Plan to be used for the remainder of the 2005
hurricane season
- Hispanics use I-10 West to San Antonio
- Cajuns use I-10 East to Lafayette
- Rednecks use 59 North to East Texas
- Republicans fly Continental to Washington, DC
- Yankees and Democrats use 45 South to Galveston
- Longhorns use 290 West to Austin
- Aggies use the 610 Loop

Whoever wrote this has no balls; they failed to address what the large black population in Houston should do. I won't comment.

Cut this picture into you and me
Burn it backwards kill this history
Make it over make it stay away
Or hate’ll say the ending that love started to stay
There’s a kid a floor below me saying brother can you spare
Sunshine for a brother old man winter’s in the air
Walked me up a story asking how you are
Told me not to worry you were just a shooting star
Sweet adeline
Sweet adeline
My clementine
Sweet adeline
It’s a picture perfect evening and I’m staring down the sun
Fully loaded deaf and dumb and done
Waiting for sedation to disconnect my head
Or any situation where I’m better off then dead

Rita, you BITCH!

This hurricane business is crazy. My whole family and some of my friends are staying put, and i'm a little worried. I don't think anyone will die, but something unfortunate could very easily happen to my house. We live a good hour northwest of the coast, so it should be okay. Its so crazy to see the footage of the clogged highways; I'm glad that I am 3 hours from Galveston. Just as we thought gas prices were going to go down a little, BAM! They've suggested that we buy water and non-perishable food, but i really think that it will be okay.
i bombed my calculus quiz today; that was fun. My roommate gave me a 'UT ballroom dancing club' t-shirt, and i will wear it at LEAST once a week.
I have to write 10 alphabets in architect font and read some crap that my design prof emailed me before tommorrow morning.
I would work without pay if only Renzo Piano would make me his apprentice. He was Louis Kahn's, apparently.
The jetblue mishap makes me laugh because it was an Airbus A320. haha. thats what they get for buying French CRAP. As i have always posited, Boeing all the way. Airbus is poop.
I like this haphazerd style; it suits me.
Drag him out the window
Dragging out your dead
Singing I miss you
Snakes and ladders flip the lid
Out pops the cracker
Smacks you in the head
Knifes you in the neck
Kicks you in the teeth
Steel toe caps
Takes all your credit cards
Step up get the gun
Get the eggs
Get the flan in the face
The flan in the face
The flan in the face
Dance you fucker dance you fucker
Don't you dare
Don't you dare
Don't you flan in the face
Take it with the love its given
Take it with a pinch of salt
Take it to the taxman
Let me back
Let me back
I promise to be good
Don't look in the mirror at the face you don't recognize
Help me, call the doctor, put me inside
put me inside
put me inside
put me inside
put me inside

I keep the wolf from the door
But he calls me up
Calls me on the phone
Tells me all the ways that he's gonna mess me up
Steal all my children if I don't pay the ransom
And I'll never see them again if I squeal to the cops. . . .

Walking like a giant cranes
And with my X-ray eyes I strip you naked
in a tight little world
and are you on the list?
Stepford wives who are we to complain?
Investments and dealers
Investments and dealers
Cold wives and mistresses
Cold wives and Sunday papers city
Boys in First Class don't know we're born little
Someone else is gonna come and clean it up
Born and raised for the job
Someone always does
I wish you'd get up get over
get up get over and turn the tape off

I keep the wolf from the door
But he calls me up
Calls me on the phone
Tells me all the ways that he's gonna mess me up
Steal all my children if I don't pay the ransom
And I'll never see them again if I squeal to the cops

So I'm just gonna. . . .

Oh Em Gee

The Dalai Lama has a manpurse. I was shocked as well. Seeing/hearing him was fantabulous. Although i zoned out a few times due to my occasional inability to understand him, he did have some very good things to say. My favorite was probably that violence only leads to more violence and hatred; Mr. Dalai Lama, sir, I could not have said it better myself. Wait, I speak near perfect english, and you... ah nevermind. It was def. one of those once in a lifetime opportunities, and I am very glad that I was able to do it.
This morning, instead of presenting our vestments, we all donned them and did a little parade around the plaza that separates the union and goldsmith. Although, it was really lame because there was barely anyone out that early in the morning. And now we get to draw a set of instructions, without words. Awesomely awesome. I should really go and do some research for my arch. paper, which is due this monday. I also need to go take a picture, which really isn't necessary, but I would like to take one at night from accross the street. I've thought about this blog, and I've come to the conclusion that really all I do is ramble on about crap. But i suppose that is the point; if you want serious writing, go to someone else's blog, or Barnes & Noble. One thing is certain: I enjoy it very much. It's my daily catharsis. catharsis, i like that word.
I can't seem to face up to the facts
I'm tense and nervous and I can't relax
I can't sleep 'cause my bed's on fire
Don't touch me I'm a real live wire

You start a conversation you can't even finish it.
You're talkin' a lot, but you're not sayin' anything.
When I have nothing to say, my lips are sealed.
Say something once, why say it again?

Psycho Killer,
Qu'est-ce que c'est?
Fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa far far better
Run run run run run run run away

Realisant mon espoir,

We are vain and we are blind
I hate people when they're not polite

"Unity in the Netherlands"

The last 3 days have been good ones. My mini-hiatus at home was enjoyable, and i renewed my membership to the MFA, so i will be going there every time I am in Houston. I finished my vestment, and it looks good. I totally cheated, though; I used a lot more than the required 6' of paper, as well as 2 different colors. And glue, big no no. But it looks really cool, so i can't bring myself to care. The instructions did say to use the 6' as a starting point, so i think it will be cool. One of the design assistants corrected me when i said something in my relief looked "cool". The word is "interesting", definitely NOT "cool". Shame on me. I've been wearing my glasses about every other day, which is fun, because no one will be able to get used to one or the other. Until I got my new ultra chic glasses, i had a really ugly pair that I never wore outside the house, so it was contacts all the time. Although i really need some clip-ons for the glasses because the sun is just a tad bright. The new pen came in the mail; i played with it all through calculus today, which is just as well because i wouldn't have learned anything anyway. The Dalai Lama will be speaking tommorrow, yay! I wonder if he is already in town, and if so, where is he staying? Would he stay in a hotel, or is there some buddhist temple or something that he stays at? These are questions in dire need of answers. i got some really nice greeting cards that have an awesome Franz Kline painting on them, but of course one of them is on the wall. My dorm room is beginning to look a bit like my room at home: more and more wall space is being covered by art.
I heard a report that approximately 40% of the New Orleans refugees in Houston plan to remain there. FUCKING GREAT! I guess the H-town ghetto is big enough for several thousand more, at least i pray it is. I got a citation for parking in the garage, even though I payed the full price to park. So stupid, these people. Well, it was actually more like a warning; it said that I had to take care of it before leaving the garage or it could become a citation, and of course I didn't see the damn thing until after I was out on the street. Joyous.
C’mon baby, take a chance with us
C’mon baby, take a chance with us
C’mon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin’ a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin’ a blue rock
C’mon, yeah

Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
But you’ll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die

This is the end

I thought I should add a few more pics from yesterday...

More sake, please

Sushi is... well, it's... fish. I wasn't all that impressed. It wasn't gross, but i didn't think it tasted that good. Apparently, this was supposed to be the best Japanese in houston, but who knows. Sake is another mystery. Its like hot vinegar. However, i feel cool just for having eaten a japanese meal in a little room with a low table. We had a discussion in design today that got me thinkning about my suburban home. big windows and horrible, nightmarishly real hallucinations.

oy vey

Uuuuuh... Nothing much to report today. Checked out some books from the arch. library today: one on Palladio and another on Renzo Piano. I saw a dead bat in the grass near the studio yesterday, and it made me sad. Started to watch Bush's speech in New Orleans, but soon realized I would gain absolutely nothing by seeing it to it's conclusion so i changed the channel in pursuit of tastier fare. I think I did well on my calculus quiz today, thank god. The daily show comes on in 19 minutes; i will NOT miss it. Going home this weekend to see my brother and some firends I haven't seen in almost a month. Also, my membership to the museum of fine arts expires at the end of the month, so i really wanna get lit and go look at some art one last time for free. The architecture of the museum is really nice: Mies Van Der Rohe on one side of Main, and on the other, Rafael Moneo. My favorite part has got to be the tunnel that goes under the street linking the two. They got James Turrell to do a permanent installation that turns the passage across the street into a magical journey (if you're high). I might stop by the Menil if there's anything new on... I will be bringing my vestment home with me, so as not to get behind. I cut who knows how many little v's in it today, which later i will make pretty. It's so much easier to just put a picture up later than to try and explain. OH! heres a video I made by accident, really. I was just bored and decided to film the quasi-homeless guys who sell newspapers by my mom's place. The music makes it, though.

Before you slip into unconsciousness
I’d like to have another kiss
Another flashing chance at bliss
Another kiss, another kiss

The days are bright and filled with pain
Enclose me in your gentle rain
The time you ran was too insane
We’ll meet again, we’ll meet again

Oh tell me where your freedom lies
The streets are fields that never die
Deliver me from reasons why
You’d rather cry, I’d rather fly

The crystal ship is being filled
A thousand girls, a thousand thrills
A million ways to spend your time
When we get back, I’ll drop a line

Sorry, I decided to bore you with some of my own photoshopped pics today:

Okay, so the last one isn't photoshopped, but whatever...

Well, my day is complete. Every day since i've been here i have walked by the Travesty boxes on the sidewalk, hoping to see them filled. Finally, FINALLY, i found the box full today. For those of you who don't know what the hell I'm talking about, the Travesty is the UT humor publication, and it is very funny; i was fortunate enough to discover it during orientation. I've been spending too much money lately, as has been the story ever since I got my lovely visa debit card. I bought another one of those pens online; this one is a special edition orange one that I just had to have. I also splurged a bit on itunes, and now I have Beethoven's symphonies 1-9. 7 sounds a lot like the theme music from Fargo, or perhaps I should say the theme music sounds like the 7th. God, I love that movie. Got my birthday/graduation present from my sister/brother-in-law today: framed pic of my sister, father, me; starbucks giftcards (and i thought heavy-duty christians were anti-addiction), and a bag of horribly fattening yet delicious brownies. I talked to someone for the first time in 4 months last night; which was nice.

I was dreaming of the past.
And my heart was beating fast,
I began to lose control,
I began to lose control,

I didn't mean to hurt you,
I'm sorry that I mad you cry,
I didn't want to hurt you,
I'm just a jealous guy,

I was feeling insecure,
You night not love me any more,

I was shivering inside,
I was shivering inside,

I was trying to catch your eyes,
Thought that you were trying to hide,
I was swallowing my pain,
I was swallowing my pain.

-GUESS the artist (unless, of course, you know the answer then it wouldn't a guess, would it?!)

Dios mio, dios mio, por que me has abandonado?!

peroyouno: i called a grown woman a bitch a lil while ago
DeltaDawn87: what?
peroyouno: yeah
peroyouno: on my way back from the mall, i stopped at freebirds for dinner, and coming up congress i decided to stop and see the bats
peroyouno: i parked at the radisson, watched the bats, and went over to city hall to check out the bldg
peroyouno: on my way back to my car, i stopped by the lil parking lady's booth and asked how long before i started to get charged, she said 30 mins, after that it was $7
peroyouno: it turned out i had been there an hour, but i remembered that if you had eaten at Friday's (in the radisson) you could get free parking, so i went over there and asked them to validate my slip; well the lady was all like, why does it say friday's? you weren't at friday's (she had asked where i had been earlier) i told her i went up for a drink
peroyouno: she asked if i had the receipt and began to call friday's
peroyouno: she talked to someone up there, who told her it was allright, so she opened the gate, and as I drove away, i yelled Bitch!

I mean, seriously, how the hell does this dumbass woman take her job seriously? All she has to do is put little slips of paper into a machine and collect money, and she acts like she's a fucking homicide detective. I feel totally justified in calling her a bitch. What I think is awesome is that whoever she talked to on the phone said 'no' when she asked if I had just walked in. The people in Friday's with slightly less mundane employment probably think she's a bitch too. By the way, please don't take offense to my frequent use of the word bitch in the pejorative. It's nothing against women; to me, 'bitch' is the female equivalent of 'asshole'. The two words are used to describe people that are mean or rude, etc, etc. She was ugly too.
Anyway, my ipod is fixed, and let's just say that I felt like a complete retard when I saw how easily the problem was solved after I had waited 45 minutes in the apple store. It wasn't all bad, though. I did get to check out the new nano, which is a very sexy device. I also walked around the corner to Paradise Pen Co. and bought another $27 fountain pen. Which was an absolute necessity.
I sent my grandmother a 'thinking of you' card and an 'I'm a longhorn Grandma' bumpersticker today. I hope it brightens her day, if only a little. Funny thing is that she lives in Cincinnati, so I hope some pissed off OSU fan sees it. Yet another illuminating lecture from prof. Speck today; that man knows how to teach. I'm writing my 4 papers on Austin City Hall, which was my first choice (yay). Although i actually decided later that I would have liked to do the Alhambra instead, but c'est la vie.
And you know what comes next:

dilluns, de setembre 12, 2005

Nothing much to say today, just more pictures and animations. My ipod stopped working yesterday, and I don't know what to do. My ipod is life, it is an absolute good. At least I have my ipod shuffle as well. Good thing I found an apple store in Austin. I overslept this morning and missed ARC308 discussion. Fuck it...
I finished the study version of my vestment, which is really just a 6' cape. the study version isn't nearly as good as the final will be, but it allowed me to explore the possibilities of my idea. The final is going to be so cool. Speaking of which, i stabbed my finger with an x-acto knife today. That was awesome. Heres a cool video of my friend spinning around at richmond hall in Houston. I like it, and my friend looks so happy.

Yo le falto, Houston. I'm not homesick, because truth be told, i don't miss my home or my family that much, but I do miss being in Houston, and my friends.
Here's some more stuff to look at:
Anyone who has seen 'Requiem for a Dream' can appreciate this...

These are my new posters: Edvard Munch, some french guy, and Mark Rothko. I know that old french ads are a bit cliche, but I like this one becaue it has a devil on it. I now have satan to guard me as I sleep.
I met my family for lunch in New Braunfels today, that was nice except for the fact that I left my lights on and had to borrow jumper cables from a gas station. Driving in the rain on a freeway sucks. Last night was crazy, not really for me personally because i didn't do anything, but everyone went wild after we beat OSU. I watched the last little bit of the game; watching sports is not my bag, unless it's tennis or sometimes soccer. I read an excellent article (in Rolling Stone, no less) about Bush's shameful environmental policy and was subsequently shocked at how angry I became. I actually joined the Buck Fush facebook group and changed my political designation to liberal, something I've been considering ever since I read 'A People's History of the United States'. It's a great read; i highly recommend it. I had to walk the rage off. I need a picture of Bush chasing a bunch of baby seals with a chainsaw. That shouldn't be hard considering the number of pics there are of him cutting trees at his ranch. Oh well. I really hope our next president cares about the environment, because i don't want to pass on a shitty planet to my children and their children's children, etc. My little four year old sister wrote (dictated really) me a letter demanding an explanation to why I had to go away to school, and she sent me some stickers. Kids are so cute when they're not bratty shits.

This is a self portrait of a friend of mine.

dissabte, de setembre 10, 2005

Well last night was interesting: went to a friend of a friend's apt, subsequently to a similar situation at towers, where the security guard actually opened the door for us (not one of us lives there). That was cool, cept everyone else was very drunk and I was not. Damn you, vehicular responsibilities! Oh well... I got back to the dorm at around 4 this morning, and as i was getting out of the shower some guy brought a stereo into the bathroom so he could be serenaded by Coldplay as he brushed his teeth. Needless to say, i looked at him as if he was insane. Today has been a bit boring, i did a little work on my vestment, the study version of which is coming along nicely. My RA invited me to go to Barton Springs, and i declined. Call me an anti-social asshole (spot on description, btw) but i really am not crazy about this idea of spending time with a bunch of people that don't pique my interest in the least. My roommate went, said the water was very cold. The other people in my arch. studio all seem pretty cool, but I haven't talked to them too much. More of the same with Amy tonight, I think.

I've got a secret I've been hiding under my skin
My heart is human, my blood is boiling, my brain I.B.M.
So if you see me acting strangely, don't be surprised
I'm just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide
To keep me alive-just keep me alive
Somewhere to hide to keep me alive

I'm not a robot without emotions-I'm not what you see
I've come to help you with your problems, so we can be free
I'm not a hero, I'm not a saviour, forget what you know
I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control
Beyond my control-we all need control
I need control-we all need control
-I've been liking this song lately; rock opera is the shit.

And of course there are always the pics...

Oh Boy...

Well, today I had the pleasure of eating at Freebird's World Burrito, and i can tell you, it kicks the SHIT out of Chipotle. Plus, its a Texas company that has personality; Chipotle is on par with Wal-Mart and Starbucks. Some funny things i've seen recently: Guy walking up the speedway wearing a houndstooth jump suit, long shaggy hair, smoking an old man pipe. Also, a guy sitting alone in the back corner of the Jester West TV room as the TV blared the vid for that "i like it, I love it' song. And of course there are the pics i just posted. I especially like the John McCain one.
I saw the UT solar decathlon house tonight; its very cool, and we may very well win the competition. The maintenance guy who fixed my drain today seriously smelled like ass. Yuck.
Lately I've really been digging Beethoven's 9th symphony, mainly because it kicks ass. Since i've come to Austin, my ipod is pretty much a permanent fixture as i walk around campus, and when i'm doing this while listening the 9th, i feel... MIGHTY. I also really like 'no one' by quasi which has a very powerful, emotional sound.
I was the only one on the bus from the parking lot back to campus earlier this evening, and i had to sit there and wait as the driver took a smoke break.
